GAIA Counseling & Medical Centre III of Kyetume

The Kyetume Health Centre was started in 1992 as a small clinic. In response to the health centre’s improvement in services and infrastructure, in 2006 the health centre henceforth is now classified as a Health Centre III. The people who access services at this establishment include mainly those of Kyetume and its surrounding subcounties, some as far as Katosi.

The health centre sees about 50 patients each day.

GAIA Counseling & Medical Centre III currently is composed of two buildings – an Out-Patient Department and also a General Ward.

The OPD was officially opened by Madam Susan Browning, the first lady in the USA Embassy Kampala-Uganda on 20 November 2006. It was donated to Kyetume CBHC Programme by the American people under the community grants for HIV/AIDS Funds at the USA Embassy Kampala-Uganda.

The General Ward was officially commissioned on 4 March 2007 by Dr. Elise Kant. It was donated to Kyetume CBHC Programme by the Global Church Ministries – Kerkinactie in the Netherlands.

Current Developments

Completed in June 2009, Kyetume CBHC Programme has installed a gate around the GAIA Medical and Counseling Centre III to boost the security of its patients and medical equipment.

Future Plans

Kyetume CBHC Programme is currently working to finance an ambulance to adequately care for patients in transit from their homes to the health centre. The ambulance should be in service by October 2009.

Kyetume CBHC Programme has hopes of integrating comprehensive dental care to the services it currently offers with the acquisition of a dental chair.

Kyetume CBHC Programme also hopes to build another wing for the health centre to allow for partitions of its general ward to make its patients more comfortable. In the future, Kyetume wishes to expand its services to also include a radiology department and obstetric surgery table. Kyetume plans to offer the services of a CT scan and x-ray by the end of 2010.
