Mission Harvest Ministries - Uganda
Mission Harvest Ministries AFRICA is a registered non-profit organization based in Uganda, committed to the inclusion of Uganda in mushrooming information technology movement and the empowerment of the disadvantaged groups in rural and urban Uganda in gaining access to indigenous and emerging information communications technologies. This organization is currently working hand in hand with Kyetume CBHC Programme to implement projects in the Kyetume community.
Mission Statement
Mission Harvest Ministries Africa Inc. Uganda is committed to providing quality, economical services to assist the needy, and to provide humanitarian aid to meet global demands for assistance. It is dedicated to address the Digital Divide throughout the world and to provide a source of computer skills for people that wish to make a living and a spiritual foundation to make a life.
Objectives
Setting up training centers in rural areas for the purpose of training ICT and supporting the telecentre movement.
Donating computers to low-income schools.
Sensitizing youth about HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Supporting through humanitarian aid to the following categories of people: those in rural area zones, street kids, people suffering from HIV/AIDS, and other needy groups.
Setting up orphanage homes.
Mobilizing and removing street kids by introducing them to computer skills in order for them to live a productive life.
Sensitizing students on the incidences of HIV/AIDS by setting up drama and music for educating other fellow students.
Main Focus
(i) The main focus of the project is to provide affordable access to computers and ICT primarily to young people and rural communities.
(ii) To create an ICT youth focal point where youth in rural communities can access facilities, training, advice, and opportunities to participate in projects and other initiatives involving ICT.
(iii) To improve computer literacy and awareness of ICT in young people including those seeking to pursue tertiary education as a means of self improvement and opportunity for school push-out.
(iv) Capacity building through training school students will be provided with access in groups. It is planned to help young people generate their own content- web sites - and this is an attractive learning activity.
Proposed Projects
There are currently three proposed projects to be completed through the partnership of Mission Harvest Ministries AFRICA and Kyetume CBHC Programme. The first is a community radio programme. The second is to open a nursing school and the last is an aged project, which will help mobilize the elders of Kyetume.
The projects are intended to begin with the start of 2010.
