Bajja Basaaga (meaning they come jokingly) is a women’s
group of HIV positive women and young mothers who are
hand crafting paper beads which they make into necklaces,
bracelets, earrings, belts and bags. This group gives
these women a chance to earn an income and enjoy some
time to talk with friends.
The Women of Bajja Basaaga
The women meet at least once a week at the Emma &
Greg Resource Centre to cut paper and varnish the beads
together. Currently we are working to find a sustainable
market for the products. If you have any ideas or wish
to purchase some of the crafts, do not hesitate to contact
us.
It has been hard work for all involved but benefits have
been seen, for example one of the women was able to take
her children to visit her mother for Christmas, another
now is able to get her hair done. But most women use the
money for daily expenses and school fees for their children.
